Tips for Moving While Pregnant:
- Talk to your doctor first.
- Before even picking up a box, check with your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you to be lifting.
- Get more help than you would normally get! This doesn’t just include moving, this also includes organizing, packing, and cleaning.
- If you’re going to lift, make sure you’re lifting safely.
- Pregnancy produces increased levels of the hormone relaxin, which loosens ligaments to help with labor. This, along with posture changes and extra weight, makes you more likely to hurt yourself. Common pregnancy injuries include back strain, pubic symphysis dysfunction(SPD), carpal tunnel pain, and sacroiliac joint problems.
- Give yourself plenty of time to pack and prepare your home to move.
- Start well in advance so you can take regular breaks. "Take a rest every half an hour. Make sure you put your feet up to help with circulation. Standing too long can lead to lower extremity swelling.
- Pack a moving day kit.
- Bring something to sit on so you can rest during the move. The movers may not have access to a chair right away, so make sure you pack one in your vehicle.
- Bring snacks and beverages to stay hydrated.
